William Thornton Johnson

William Thornton Johnson, “Papa”, 88, passed away February, 17, 2018. He was born in Lynchburg, VA, to the late Willie and Lula Johnson. Bill retired from Nesson Sales Toys and Hobbies as a Warehouse Manager. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Norfolk, VA. He enjoyed yard sales, flea markets, craigslist and buying, repairing and selling bicycles. Our dad was happiest when spending time with his family and extended church family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Carolyn.

He is survived by three daughters; Susan Thompson (Keith), Cathryn Thompson (Karl) and Cynthia Payne (Charles), 9 grandchildren; Nathan (Bethany), Jason, Mitchell (Jessica), Kasey (Chris), Chase, Cody, Kellie, Stacy (Erin) and Michael (Amy), 9 great grandchildren; Kayla, Lily, Sean, Brody, Garrett, Kayleigh, Andrew, Autumn and Blake, brother; Ernest Johnson, sister; Bettie Maddox and many other loving family members and friends.

There will be a graveside service, Thursday, February 22, at 11 AM at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will then gather for a memorial service at Fellowship Baptist Church, 419 Glenrock Rd., Norfolk, VA. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5-7:30 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502.
