VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Teodorica “Julie” Olarti Milan, 91, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025. Julie was born on July 1, 1933 to the late Augustin and Aquilena Cole Olarti in Waimea Kauai, Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Roberto “Bert” Milan, and daughter Susan Perron.
Julie had a passion for reading, especially mystery novels. She watched her favorite soap operas, never missing an episode of “All My Children”, “General Hospital,” and “Days of Our Lives.” Each night, she eagerly anticipated playing along with "Wheel of Fortune" and testing her trivia knowledge on "Jeopardy." Nicknamed “SONGBIRD,” Julie’s love for singing was a true gift that brought joy to her family and friends. She was a choir member at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. She was also actively involved in the Filipino Community, proudly participating in The Samahang Tagalog, The Council of United Filipino Organization of Tidewater, and The Ilocano Association. Family get-togethers for holidays and any occasion delighted her, especially when it included many desserts. Julie had a big sweet tooth! She was a good baker and never a cook. Her peach and apple pies, upside-down pineapple cake, brownies and the likes will be fondly remembered.
Julie is survived by one son and two daughters, Robert O. Milan, Geraldine (Carey) Dietsch, and Jenniffer (Roy) Moreno, a son-in-law, Bill Perron, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She leaves four sisters and three brothers, Adralyn Luna, Bibiana Pagabuan, Edwina Toibero, Esther Pelen, Andrew Balecha, Mathew Balecha, and John Olarti, and many other family members and friends from Virginia, California, Hawaii, and the Philippines. She will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA. The Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, VA. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
