Stanley James “S.J” Gill, a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, passed away on November 15, 2023, from a long-term illness at the age of 87. Stanley was born on July 7, 1936, in Norfolk, VA to the late Stanley Gill and Lillian Joyner Gill. At the age of 17, Stanley enlisted in the Marines. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. As part of this service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and took part in the Vietnam War. Finally retiring after 19 years of service as Master Sergeant. After retirement from the Marines, he worked as a police officer for the Naval Station Norfolk for 22 years. Where he achieved rank of Major. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary B. Gill; daughter, January Gill O’Neil; grandson Alexander O’Neil; granddaughter, Ella O’Neil; niece Deborah B. Ennis (Errol); nephew, Kevin Blount; sister-in-law Mary Blossomgame; as well as other beloved relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Clifton Roulhac; sister, Dorothy L. Blount and son, Stanley Terrence Gill. Stanley was a loving husband, father and friend, willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He served his country honorably and loved being a Marine.
