Robert Wesley Hammer, 88, died Saturday at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Robert is predeceased by his wife Betty A. Hammer. His surviving relatives are sons, Robert Hammer and wife Pam; John Hammer and wife Patricia; daughters, Susan C. Brooks and husband Michael; Marjorie Galubke and husband Michael. He has 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as well. Robert retired as a Lieutenant Commander from the US Navy and also retired as Manager for the Navy Lodge at the Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a proud lifetime member of the USS North Carolina (BB55) battleship and a noteworthy member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends 6 to 8pm Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 1pm and will be officiated by Ernest Trueblood. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
