Richard Tecumseh Riley, 90, died Monday 12/17/2012 at Maryview Nursing Center, Suffolk, Va. R.T. was born 3/21/22 in Tulsa, OK the son of the late John Markham and Ida Prophet Riley, and was of Native American heritage (Shawnee and Cherokee).
Mr. Riley was predeceased by his wife Elsie Riley in Jan 2007; his sister Louise Riley Frankel (Joseph), sister Elizabeth Riley Ybarraz (Joseph) and brother William Riley.
He is survived by daughters, Ramona (Mona) Powell (Jim), Cynthia (Cindy) Rickard (Wally), Marie Sordillo; son Mart Lewis (Donna); 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, plus nephews and nieces.
R.T. served 31 years in the U.S. Navy. He is a Pearl Harbor Survivor having been on the U.S.S. Nevada on 12/7/1941. He was a member of a gunfire support team on the beach in France during the Invasion of Normandy. He served on 16 ships and man shore duty spots on both the East and West Coasts. He was a Plank Holder on the U.S.S. Salem. He was a member of “The Greatest Generation” and served his country proudly and well.
Services, with full military honors, will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, with Pastor Joe Covey presiding, at 1pm. There will be a visitation 1 hour prior to service and reception immediately following the service.
