On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, Pamela took her last breath on earth surrounded by her sister, children and grandchildren, and she stepped into eternity with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She is reunited with the love of her life, Donald, who began his eternal journey six months prior. She was predeceased by her father, Willard Paul Sowers, stepfather, and the one she affectionately called “Daddy”, Rowland C. Harrelson, and her mother, Ola Louise Melton Harrelson. Pam was the center of her family and loved by all. She will be missed, especially by her three daughters Callie Johnson (Dewitt Johnson) of Chesapeake, Donna Magoncia (Joseph Magoncia) of El Paso, TX and Jennifer Riley (Paul Riley) of Norfolk, her nine grandchildren Ashley Tompkins, Rachel Tompkins, Lyndsey Tompkins, Noel Riley, Hunter Magoncia, Grace Riley, Christian Magoncia, Maria Johnson, and Donovan Magoncia, and one great-grandson, Gunner Houlahan, her beloved “baby sister” Robin West of Virginia Beach, and her brother-in-law David Self of Danville, two nieces, Amber and Megan, two great-nieces, Gabbi and Lily and a great-nephew, Ciaran. She also leaves behind a host of cousins who love her dearly.
Pam was born in Danville, Virginia on April 1, 1945. She always laughed saying she was born on both April Fools’ Day and Easter Sunday. She was an answered prayer for her mother. She grew up between Danville, VA and Norfolk, VA and graduated from Norview High School in Norfolk in 1963. She was a proud alumna of her high school. She worked for Jack’s Towing for 30 years. Pam loved Elvis Presley and she loved to dance. She loved watching and coaching softball, especially her children and grandchildren. You could usually hear her hollering from the dugout. She loved her family above all, and she made her life choices around her family’s need. She was a precious and giving soul and was a mother figure to many of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends. She was known for her wisdom and its frequent dispense. You could count on her to tell you, “Don’t borrow trouble,” “You can do that standing on your head,” and “Even a broken clock is right twice a day.” She often said, “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck,” “I love you to the moon and back.” Her family will hold the many memories dear until they see her again.
The viewing service for Pam will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and the funeral service Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA. Interment and a reception will follow the service.
