With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maritza Ortiz, 37, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend. A resident of Virginia, Maritza peacefully gained her wings on March 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with illness.
Born in Paterson, NJ, on June 16, 1987, Maritza was part of a beautiful set of twins, alongside her sister Marisol. Affectionately known as “Gordi,” she was a woman of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She was the cherished daughter of Maritza M. Cay and the late Jose A. Ortiz and a loving sister to her older brother, Joselito Ortiz. Above all, she was a devoted mother to her two sons, Delvin J. Ortiz and Jerel E. Billups, who were her greatest pride and joy.
Maritza was passionate about learning and dedicated herself to the medical field. She earned her associate degree as a Medical Assistant from Centura College and later pursued a second associate degree in Medical Administration at Everest College.
Beyond her professional achievements, Maritza had a vibrant spirit and a love for bringing people together. She found joy in music, teaming up with Cess Beats to create Turn Up Events, and she had a gift for entertaining, filling every gathering with laughter, love, and incredible food. Her famous coquitos, made every Thanksgiving and Christmas, were a testament to the love she poured into everything she did.
In 2022, Maritza was diagnosed with liver disease, yet she faced every challenge with strength and grace. Though she has left this world, her memory and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A celebration of Maritza’s life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 4 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. Please visit www.woodlawnnorfolk.com to share memories and leave condolences for the family.
