Senoy, born to Mariano and Cerila Castillo on April 26,1936, grew up in Boot, Tanauan, Batangas, Philippines. He enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1960 to ensure a better life for his family in the United States. Throughout his service, he was stationed both in the United States and abroad, including Vietnam. He traveled aboard the USS Independence (CVA62), USS Cook (LPD130), USS Cacapon (AO-52), USS Monticello (LSD55), USS Puget Sound (AD38), and the USS Hancock (Squadron 12). He proudly served his country for 22 years. After his retirement, he continued to fulfill his passion for service as a Navy civilian.
After several letter exchanges with Anselma Carandang, his high school classmate, he came back to the Philippines after being away for five years and proposed. At the age of 27, he married the love of his life on March 29, 1964 and within a month, left for duty on April 26, 1964. In October 1968, they were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Rebecca, and in July 1970, with a handsome boy, Arnel. After being separated for almost 10 years, Senoy reunited with his family in the United States in 1975 in Kingsville, Texas. In 1977, they moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where they both eventually retired.
Marcelino lived a full life, enjoying cooking for everyone, especially his grandchildren, fishing, gardening, working in his yard, and winning big at the casino. He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church for over 40 years and a member of the Batangas Association of Tidewater. He loved visiting his homeland in the Philippines. His proudest achievement has been celebrating the successes of his seven beloved grandchildren, ranging from academics, athletics, music, and arts. We will miss his presence, but he will always be present in our hearts.
He is predeceased by his brother, Oprenio (Taciana) Castillo and survived by his sisters, Lydia (Gemeniano) Molinar, Apolonia (Maximo) de Leon and brother Francisco (Corazon) Castillo and his numerous nieces and nephews in the Philippines and around the world.
He will be missed by his daughter Rebecca with her husband Robert Antonio, and their children, Alexander, Viviana, and Lauren, along with his son Arnel and his wife Marissa Galicia-Castillo with their four children, Rubylin, Marciana, Lee, and Rommel. He loved his two grand-pets, Meeko the Shiba Inu and Greenbean the Tuxedo cat.
We will always remember Senoy’s infectious smile, strong work ethic, and kind, loving, and generous spirit.
