 I worked at RK as a painter many years ago..I didn't have much contact with Joe then but certainly knew who he was and knew the respect folks had for him.  After I left in 1997 and went back to work for myself pressure cleaning and staining I met Joe again in the neighborhood as I cleaned some of the houses around him and he allowed me to clean his home.  He was always so encouraging to me personally.  He would always say "Tom, you're the best!"  He probably said it to everyone as he knew well how to get the best effort from people, but it sure meant alot to me.  I will certainly miss that big smile and all the encouraging words he said to me.  I am so sorry for your loss, he was a great man, a leader and a friend.

Joe and I grew up together in the South Norfolk Pentecostal Holiness Church. I counted him as my best friend until we moved to Georgia in 1962. I am proud of his service as a Marine and for the blessed family he had. I have wonderful childhood memories of him and his parents. We were born days apart as my birthday is January 23, 1949. I remember Joe from the old South Norfolk PH church. Some of my fondest memories come from that stage in my life. Seeing Joe and his family at Parkway was a blessing. Condolences to the family. May God give you peace as you continue your journey in life.
