Josefina R. Malig passed away at the age of 84, on Mon., 2/27. She was the widow of Florentino Malig and is survived by her only son Gerard Malig, daughter in law Julie Malig and grandchildren Cayman, Croix, Caicos, and Kona. She taught in the Philippines, where she met her soon to be husband, Flor, beginning their journey into the United States. Josefina began working at General Electric and continued to work for the Navy Exchange. While working, she had made many friends that would lead to strong long lasting bonds. One of the greater qualities Josefina had was her ability to be an incredible friend. She was known for her welcoming smile and warm heart which she shared with anyone close to her. Whether it was something as small as making dinner for friends or helping in church whenever she got the chance, the way she cared about people was always evident in the community. Josefina was very active in St. Therese Catholic Church in Chesapeake, VA where she led the Filipino community in making Filipino cuisine for the annual fundraisers. Her many achievements in life can be attributed to her many loyal friends that she had made along the way.
A funeral mass will be held Mon., 3/6, 10 AM, St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7800 Halprin Dr., Norfolk. A reception will immediately follow at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. VA Beach Blvd, Norfolk. Condolences and words of comfort may be left for the family at www.woodlawngroup.com.
