Jimmy Walton 'Pop Pop' Baxley, 73 years young, on 7/6/10, passed peacefully into the arms of our Savior Jesus, and the waiting arms of his mother Beulah MacLaughlin and brothers Lyle Baxley, Earl Ray Burchett, Jean Myers, and Robert Baxley. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Clayton Baxley and a host of aunts and uncles awaiting his arrival in God’s kingdom.
He was surrounded by his loving family as he drew his final breath. The family who owe their being to this kind and gentle soul are his loving wife of 52 years, Jeanette 'Jet' Baxley, daughters Pamela Sue Baxley Carrera (Roger) of Moyock, NC and Barbara Baxley of Va Beach, grandchildren Nicole Lauren, Caitlin Elise, Kendal Paige, Kevin Kyle and Olivia Faith. He is survived by sisters Betty Newton, Shelby Price, Sandra Tyndall, Rosalie White, Alice Singletary, Cindy Carlisle, and Angie Bennett, his favorite nephew, Larry C. Baxley, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pop Pop always made people laugh and had a wonderful sense of play. He was a simple country boy who grew up on a tobacco farm in Bladenboro, NC and moved his young wife to Princess Anne County in 1958 in search of opportunity. He was a man who believed in hard work and family. Thankfully he was able to enjoy his retirement years with ' Jet' by his side. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at CGH ICU, especially Dr Vas, his nurses and Chaplin Marie Pogorelec. Services locally will be Saturday, 7/10 at 11am at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Norfolk with a viewing on Friday 7/9 from 6-8pm. Pop Pop will be laid to rest beside his big brother Lyle on the family farm in Bladenboro NC. Woodlawn Funeral Home 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line at www.woodlawngroup.com.
