It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean Laverne Brock, a beloved sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend. Jean departed from this world in September. She was deeply loved by her extensive family. Jean will be remembered as a loving sister, a devoted aunt, and a selfless caregiver. Her legacy of love for her family will endure as a testament to the profound impact one person can have on the lives of so many.

Born in December 1935, Jean was the daughter of Floyd and Kathleen Brock. She was a true Virginian born and bred. She forever called Virginia her home. After graduating high school, she lived with her sister, Evelyn, and played a pivotal role in raising many children, always a constant presence in the Brock-Bock-Swoope household. Although she did not have any children of her own, Jean's life was a testament to the boundless love she had for her family, especially her nieces and nephews, as well as their children. She had a special fondness for children and dedicated her life to nurturing them, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

Jean and her sister shared an unbreakable bond. They deeply cared for each other and treasured countless moments throughout their lives. Jean's nurturing spirit was truly exceptional. She provided unwavering support and love to her family. She expressed her love for her family through her kindness, and her selfless acts of service such as cleaning, cooking, and baking for others. These were the ways she demonstrated her love. We all remember her for making the BEST raisin bread. She also had a hearty appetite, with her favorite foods being pizza, bananas, and anything chocolate. Evelyn often shares a humorous story of Jean once devouring an entire bowl of potato salad by herself.

Following a stroke, Jean spent her last several years in a nursing home, where she would ask the same three questions daily: "Do you love me? When are we going to eat? Are we going anywhere?" She never hesitated to express her love for family and staff alike. When visiting her in person, everyone knew to greet her with "I love you this much," with their arms outstretched as far as they could after she asked, "How much do you love me?". Even during virtual visits, she would inquire, "When are you coming to see me?" Most virtual visits included singing "I love you a bushel and a peck" by Doris Day, along with the classic exchange of "I love you to the moon and back" and "No, I love you more." While her favorite music was anything country, her favorite song was "Carry Me Back To Old Virginia."

Jean is survived by her devoted sister, Evelyn B. Swoope, her loving brother James “Jimmy” Brock, and his wife and her childhood friend Verna “Bunny” Brock.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Kathleen Brock, a dear brother Joseph “Joe” Baines, brother-in-law Calvin “Bill” Swoope, and her nephew, Matthew Swoope.

Her legacy will continue to thrive through the generations she touched. Jean's presence will be profoundly missed, but her memory will forever provide comfort and inspiration to her family. We will hold onto fond memories as the family reflects on her life. May she rest in eternal peace, forever in our hearts and memories. We take solace in knowing that she has now been reunited with family in heaven, surrounded by the love of those who have gone before her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you donate your time to visit someone in a nursing home in Jean’s name, as many residents there are very lonely and in need of companionship. Or take the staff some chocolates, and thank them for being there for others, as almost everyone likes chocolate.
