Hazel Lee Phillips 71, born in Green County, North Carolina on October 9, 1950 earned her wings on May 7, 2022. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mildred Lucus Barrett and Haywood Barrett.
She is survived by her husband of over 50 years Joseph Phillips, her brothers Vincent and Collin Barrett, her son, Joseph Dewayne Phillips (Theadora), her daughter, Terrie Phillips, her granddaughter, Andrea Faircloth, her niece/Honorary daughter, Sonya Phillips and by a host of nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws.
Hazel graduated high school in North Carolina and shortly afterwards moved to Virginia Beach where she met her husband. She was a dedicated mother, wife and worker. She worked in JC Penney’s catalog department for over 30 years where she made many close friends and acquaintances. Shortly after retiring, she put in countless hours to help run the family business Joe Lawn Service, where she was the back bone to making sure things ran smoothly. Her favorite pastime was reading, playing on her tablet, and talking every night to her sister-in-law/best friend Barbra Phillips. Hazel was loved by all who ever met and surrounded her. She will be missed dearly.
A visitation will be conducted from 4-7pm, Friday, May 13, 2022 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in the Hall of Honor. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2pm, Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Please offer your condolences to the family during this difficult time in their lives.
