

Gene Esquillo was called home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2016 at the young age of 76. Gene was born in Jacksonville Florida and was a Virginia Beach resident for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his father Benancio ( Benny) Esquillo and his mother Ruth Davis. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Chong Esquillo; daughter and son-in-law, Woo and Brandon Hutchins; grandchildren, Dasialyn, Christopher and Braelyn. He loved his grandchildren dearly and took pride in spoiling them at every opportunity.
He leaves behind his best friend and neighbor of 40 years, Mr. Allen Campbell, whom he considered a brother. Allen’s children; Christine and John ;his grandchildren, Tatiyana, Nateela, Serenity and Jace were all treated like his own and he love them just as much as his own.
He was a man of many words who loved to talk to everyone. His favorite stories consisted of his time in the Army or about his childhood growing up in Florida. He enjoyed older movies, especially westerns. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan and an Elvis aficionado. He had a passion for cooking and enjoyed feeding his family and friends. He had a genuine soul, a generous heart, and was the very definition of a family man who put others before him no matter what. Gene touched the hearts of many during his lifetime and he will be missed.
