Obituary of Elizabeth Josephine Snyder
Virginia Beach – Elizabeth J. Snyder, 68, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died in her home Sunday, July 11, 2010. A native of Norfolk, “Bettie Jo” remained in the Tidewater area all of her life. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Vincent J. and Ollie M. Scalco, Sr.; her husband, Robert N. Snyder and her brother, Vincent J. Scalco, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Robert W. Cash, Jr. and wife Sherry of Alaska and William V. Cash and wife Debbie of VA; her brother Gene Scalco and wife Cinda of CA; 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Leah, Stephanie, Michael, Evan, and Trey; great-grandchildren; and longtime companion, Corbett Hyde. Throughout her lifetime she held various employment positions, including her own carpet cleaning business with her late husband, but children and caring for others was her life, as was evident when she retired as day care director of Providence Christian School in May, 2008. The children and coworkers continued to keep in touch with her because she was not just a coworker and day care director, she was a friend. After retiring she continued helping others and was able to spend more time with her grandchildren, family and friends. Those memories we share will stay etched in our minds forever and bring smiles to our faces when we remember, but the sweetest memory we can have is knowing that she is in no more pain and is in heaven with Jesus for all eternity. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Noview Chapel with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made in honor of Bettie to the Special Olympics.
