Dorothy Sarah Gould

Dorothy Sarah Gould, 87, wife of Retired Lt. George W. Gould and a resident of Norfolk, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at Sentara Norfolk General. Born on November 4, 1926 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Henry M. Perkins and the late Dorothy Maycomber Perkins. Dorothy graduated in 1945 from Amesbury High School in Mass. She was a LPN and retired from Leigh Memorial hospital with 10 years of service. After retirement she was employed with Sentara Newtown Nursing Facility with 6 months of service. Dorothy was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church in Norfolk and frequently donated to numerous charities. Some of the charities that were near and dear to her heart were PETA, ASPCA, Wildlife Federation, Wounded Warriors, Appalachians Children’s School and many others. She liked to sew, knit, crochet, cook, and also loved working in her garden. Around fifty years ago she was a Girl Scout Leader.

Other than her devoted loving husband of 67 years, she is survived by five children, Gail P. Webb and her husband AL of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Geraldine A. Ritch and her husband Roger of Ocean Springs, Marjorie L. Robertson of Norfolk, VA, Richard W. Gould and his wife Gina of Columbus, OH, Robert E. Gould of Norfolk; a sister, Alice Straswer of Newport News; nine grandchildren, Heidi Smith, George R Bagwell, Jr., Sarah Toball, Samuel Clark, Jr., Trulah Clark, Michael Clark, Richard Gould, Jr., Rebecca Gould, Taylor Gould; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas Bates, Savannah Clary, Kempton Smith, Gavin Slade, Elijah Bagwell; and her devoted cats, Chris and Leo. She was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Suzanne Skaggs, a brother, Henry M. Perkins, Jr., a sister, Nancy Walker; two grandchildren, Virginia Lynn Gould, Trevon Michael Clark; a niece, Carol Reisinger; and a nephew, John Straswer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 6329 East Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502 with Pastor Gene Strickland officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home chapel. Following the service the interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
