Doris Barbee Brady

Doris Barbee Brady, 83, passed away in Chesapeake on Thursday, April 13, 2023. Doris was born in Alexandria, VA and is preceded in death by her father, Ashby Barbee, her mother, Helen Ryan, and her stepfather, Clifford Ryan. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward Brady and their children, Ron Brady (LuAnn), Rhonda Lucas (Jimmy), and Tammy Craig (Jim). She was known as Mamaw to her grandchildren, Adam Lucas (Cady), Brent Lucas (Rachel), Carl Lucas, Morgan Garbert (Brenden), Justin Craig, Bryan Lucas (Theresa), and Stacey Workman, and great grandchildren, Noah and Emmie Lucas. Doris had a successful 34 years as a dedicated civil servant. She was an avid animal lover and had many pets all her life. Doris loved to entertain her friends and family and never needed a reason to have a party, cookout, or just get together and play games. She fed many people with her excellent home cooking and had an annual Christmas party for over 25 years that she catered herself. This generous, thoughtful, caring woman ALWAYS put everyone else first and selflessly took care of her loved ones in their time of need. She was known for her sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. Doris will be greatly missed and cherished by her family and friends and will be forever in our hearts.

A visitation will be from 2-4pm, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. The funeral will be Monday, April 24, 2023 at 1pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home with reception to follow in the funeral home reception hall. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.woodlawnnorfolk.com.
