Donald C. Scott, 88, passed away peacefully at home with his family on January 26, 2024. As an only child, he was born on August 15, 1935, to Edward Joseph Scott and Beatrice Potts Scott. Married for 61 years and 14 days, he is survived by wife, Martha Singletary Scott; son, Craig Scott (Andrea); daughter, Stephanie Thompson (Bill); and granddaughters, Morgan Schiedel (Ben), Meghan Brandon (Carter) and Nicole Scott.
After graduating from Granby High School, Donald enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard Reserves at the young age of 17 and served until his retirement in 1997. He joined the Norfolk Police Dept. in 1957. During his long career, he worked as a homicide detective, was one of the very first members of the Norfolk Police Dive Team and was an instructor at the pistol range for 27 years. He retired in 1997 after having proudly served for 40 years.
Donald led a remarkable life, leaving behind cherished memories, a legacy of story-telling, and classic practical jokes. He will be fondly remembered for his leadership and work ethic, as well as his fun-loving spirit. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him and the community for which he proudly served.
Viewing and visitation will begin at 1:00 on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 and the graveside burial at 3:00. Family and friends are invited to the home immediately following the burial for a reception.
