Ben graduated from King George County High School in 1974 and Virginia Tech in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in Statistics. After graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He served as both activity duty and reservist, retiring from the military in 2006. As a civilian, he worked as a computer programmer/analyst until his retirement in 2020.
Ben was preceded in death by his mother Patricia Meeks, his father “Pete” Meeks, and his stepmother Colleen Cornell.
Ben is survived by his wife, Deborah Meeks, 2 children Christopher and Ashley Meeks, 4 siblings Kevin Meeks, Jansen Meeks, Shannon McClanahan, Michael Cornell, and 7 nieces and nephews.
Earlier in life his passion was the Marines and scuba/cave diving. Later in life it was his family.
Ben was an avid reader, a fan of sci-fi movies and books, and was handy around the house and yard. He enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors, going to Busch Gardens, the shooting range, and visiting wineries.
Ben was a wonderful husband and father, a proud Marine, and a friend to all that he met.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Friday June 14, 2024 at 11:00AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1396 Lynnhaven Pkwy, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. Burial with Military Honors to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502.
A visitation and viewing will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Thursday June 13th, 2024 from 6- 8 pm.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association, Marine Corps Reserve Association or the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society.
