He was born in the coal mining town of Meade, West Virginia on June 4, 1936 to the late Arnold Bertron and Garnet Kidd. He graduated from Stoco High School, where he was a star basketball player. After high school, he worked in the coal mines for a short time, then he joined the US Air Force for a few years and went on to join and retire from the US Navy. He worked a few jobs before becoming a carrier for the US Postal Service, working at almost every Virginia Beach Post Office. He took great pride in his job as a carrier and everything he did. He retired from that job to spend more time with his loving, devoted wife, Shelby, and family.
Back in the day, he was an avid tinkerer and loved to repair other people's "junk". He also was a great bowler, enjoyed softball and volleyball, and loved boating and fishing in his younger years. He enjoyed working the crosswords daily, but MOST of all he was known for his gags, jokes, pranks, etc. You'd better think twice about "stealing" his lighter because it was probably the one that would give you a good SHOCK!
He was also quick to correct you if you used a word incorrectly. He was an Aragona legend. The family will miss his usually inappropriate humor, but they will all hope to be able to recall it to pass on his jokes, as the family affectionately calls them "Charlie-isms". He was certainly one of a kind! The children wish to say, "We love you Daddy and give Mom a big kiss from all of us!"
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelvia; his father, Arnold Bertron Kidd, Sr.; his mother, Garnet Meadows; his stepfather, Warren Meadows; and his brother, Arnold Kidd, Jr.
He is survived by his children: Curtis (Angel), Chuck (Honey), Rick, and Teresa (Brad); and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
