Barbara McLaughlin, age 55, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed on to Heaven on Sunday, May 14, 2023. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21st, from 4-6pm and the funeral service will be held at 1pm, on Monday, May 22nd. Both services will be in the chapel at Woodlawn Funeral home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502.
Barbara was born in Virginia Beach on April 28, 1968. The daughter of Stanley and Mary (Pierce) Carpenter. She graduated from First Colonia High School in 1987. Barbara earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Old Dominion University in 2001 and completed her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix in 2009.
Barbara has been employed as a teacher of Virginia Beach City Public Schools for the last 10 plus years. She absolutely loved teaching her students, seeing them grow and progress. Barbara enjoyed spending time with family and many friends. During the summer she could either be found on the beach or camping most days.
In June of 1996 Barbara married David McLaughlin who was in the US Navy. Outside of Virginia Beach the couple also lived in Key West, Florida and Sigonella, Italy. Barbara was the very proud parent to her two wonderful children, Dylan and Karys McLaughlin.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mom, Mary. She is survived by her husband, David McLaughlin; son, Dylan McLaughlin; daughter, Karys McLaughlin; father, Stanley Carpenter and step mother, Amy; brother, Richard Carpenter, wife Stacie and their son, Cohen and sister, Melissa Carpenter all from the local area. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who she dearly loved.
