Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were our neighbors for many years. She would take me and my grandma, Miss Nancy M. Brown, to the grocery store. I have great memories of this. My Grandma passed in January of 2019 at 100 years of age. If I had known of Mrs. J passing, I would've had been there, no questions asked. May God bless the family in this difficult time..

Barbara was a friend, mentor, like a mother to me. I loved her and only wish I could have given her one last hug. We met in choir at church and were friends from then on. My husband Dave and I helped her when John was ill and after he passed. Since Dave is from Boston she liked to tease him and say “yes I know how those northerners are.” She would lovingly call him knot-head sometimes. They both would tease each other and both had a dry sense of humor. We ( Barbara & I)also worked in the EASTER egg project every year together. She was a dear person with her own personality, loved to sing & loved the Lord, and we loved her for it. She truly will be missed. God Bless her family. Love Dave & Kathy Gibson

Barbara was a special friend to me and my family. We are many Sunday meals at her table. Even after we moved from Norfolk she still remembered our birthdays and anniversary. My kids (who are now grown)  nicknamed her "Miss Barbie Doll." She was just that...a doll of a lady. We will surely miss her. We look forward to seeing her again in heaven.

I met Barbara through my sister, Yvette. Never have I known a more caring, loving, happy person in my life. Her love for God, her family, and her friends inspired me to be a better woman. She always gave me that wonderful smile each and every time I saw her. She will be missed and remembered always.

May the God of all comfort be with you during this time.

Mrs. B (Barbara), as we lovingly called her in our family, was the dearest friend to me and our family. She cared for our children, our home and my father-in-law who lived with us for 2 years. She was the most selfless person I have had the occasion to meet. She loved simply and unconditionally. Always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed. We shared many cups of coffee at my kitchen table where we talked, cried and prayed. The words escape me to tell how much I miss her. Rest In Peace my precious friend.

I met Mrs. Johnson in my early teen years. She and I maintained contact well into my adult years and I loved her like I loved one of my own grandparents. Her smile will be missed and I will always remember her with the fondest of memories. 

Barbara was so precious to me.  When I first began leading worship at our church I was often very nervous.  All I had to do was look for Barbara and her smile would give me that little boost of confidence I needed in the moment.  She sent me a card every year for my birthday and sometimes she would even include a $10 bill.  She always made me feel so special.  When she moved away we wrote each other letters for a while, just sharing what was going on in our lives.  I always felt like I could tell her anything.  I will miss her very much but I will always have the image of her smile in my mind.  That smile!  It was more than just a smile, it spoke volumes to all who knew her. 

Barbara was a precious lady who loved everyone and most of all God. She always had a big smile and sang beautifully.  And each year she would remember my birthday and send a card to me.   I’m sure going to miss her but count it a blessing to have known her as a friend and part of my church family.
