She was the youngest of six children born to the late Eugene and Agnes Sullivan in Boston, Mass. on June 17, 1928. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy, her brother, Gene, and sisters, Buddy Murphy, Rita, and Louise Sullivan.
After graduating from St. Rose she started working for the phone company at 17 years of age to help support her family. Meeting and marrying the love of her life, Jimmy, she moved to Virginia and continued working while raising 3 children.
Finally, after 40 years, she joined Daddy in a well-deserved retirement. She was a generous, hard-working, loving, beautiful wife and mother who deeply loved her family and friends. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She loved her role as Nana, and had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. First and foremost, she was happiest when spending time with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janet Wray and Judi O'Connor; son, Paul Greene; 5 grandsons; 3 granddaughters; 17 great grandchildren; her twin brother, Bobby Sullivan; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the nursing staff at OLPH and Medi Hospice, who gave our mother love and comfort while caring for her in her valiant fight against Alzheimer's.
She will live in our hearts forever and she will be deeply missed. Please join us in celebrating our sweet mother's life. Also, if you would like, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Barbara's name at www.alz.org.
