Anne Morrell Caskey, Age 75, of Virginia Beach passed away in her sleep on Saturday September 29th, 2007. Anne was born on August 21st, 1932, the first of five children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard J. and Grace Melton Morrell in Short Pump near Richmond, Virginia.
She graduated from Cathedral High School in Richmond and met her husband, Donald, during the 1953 Memorial Day weekend in Virginia Beach. They were married three months later and then made the first of many moves to Brooklyn, NY.
Anne had been active in the Navy Wives Club during her husband’s assignments in San Diego, Honolulu, Monterey and Norfolk’s Little Creek Amphibious Base. She was a founding member of the Tidewater Mother’s of Twins and was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. In addition to raising her family, which was her pride and joy, Anne was an accomplished crafts artist who enjoyed inspiring friends and family in creating items for church bazaars and other worthy endeavors.
Anne was an Avid reader who also enjoyed traditional music, sewing, quilting and gardening, becoming an informal authority on hydrangeas of all varieties. She also cherished her many travels abroad with her husband, and their encounters with other cultures, arts and architectures.
Anne was a loving Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and leaves us to cherish her blessings and memory, her kindness, sense of humor and unpretentious common sense. She was dearly loved by all who survive her, including her devoted and loving husband of 54 years, Donald and their ten (yes, ten) children: Gerald and wife Lynn, of Palm Springs, CA., Bruce and wife Christine, of VA Beach, VA., Susan Kuykendall and husband Jim, of Seaford, VA., Nancy Graffagnino and husband Peter, of San Francisco, CA., Carol Rastelli and husband Ernie, of VA Beach, VA., Kathryn Henderson and husband Mike, of Westerville, OH., Sandra Schanze and husband Randy, of New Port Richey, FL., Laura Pope and husband Ted, of Morganton, NC., Sharon Michele of Norfolk, VA., and Donna Lynn, of Ventura, CA.
She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren: Paloma, Travis, Michelle, Emily, Sam, Tye, James III, Naomi, Deborah, Thomas, Rachel, Peter, Bernadette, Joseph, Daniel, Sean, Patrick, Kyle, Shannon, Beyowulf, Nicholas and Dylan, as well as her great-grandson James IV, her brother Bernard Morrell Jr. and wife Linda, of Fayetteville, NC, and her sister Virginia Morrell, of Richmond, VA.
Anne’s family would like to express their sincerest thanks and gratitude to her numerous caregivers at Lake Taylor Hospital and Sentara Skilled Nursing Facility, and to those who were able to visit and write, providing kindness and comfort during her illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday October 4th, in St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church Virginia Beach, VA. With Father Mario Fulgenzi officiating. Interment will follow at the Avenue of States in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, VA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 from 6-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
