Anna W. Smith, 94, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2012. She was born on March 24, 1917 in Southampton County, VA the daughter of the late George W. and Lillian H. Williams. Anna had been an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church (formally Fox Hall Baptist Church) since 1946 and was a member of the Dorcas Bible Class. She was a volunteer at Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital for 20 years. Anna also volunteered at Chesapeake General Hospital. She loved flowers and people and was a member of the Lake Taylor Civic League. Anna was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carlton F. Smith and son, George T. “Tommy” Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Anne Carlton Johnson and husband Joseph of TN, Randy Smith and wife Patti of Chesapeake; daughter-in-law, Linda K. Smith; 6 grandchildren, Holland Johnson, Elizabeth Diedrich, Michael Smith, Kelley Guise, Jennifer Mohler and Nathan Smith; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gladys Williams of Courtland and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the funeral home with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church in Anna’s name.
