Agnes Wilkinson Mapes, 96, passed away in Norfolk, VA on Thursday, September 30, 2021. Agnes was born in Fancy Gap, Virginia but unfortunately lost her parents at the young age of 2 years old. She was raised by George Edward and Ida Alice Miller who passed away in 1958, 5 weeks apart. She is also predeceased by her husband, Willard Mapes. Agnes lived a very adventurous lifestyle. She personally knew many of the classic country musicians. She was best friends with the legendary Patsy Cline. Patsy Cline stood with her as her Matron of Honor on her wedding day in 1952 to Robert Wilkinson. After Agnes divorce she later married Willard Mapes in 1972. With her country background she loved to dance and won many jitterbug contests throughout her lifetime. Living a clean lifestyle she never smoked, drank but instead drank Coca Cola as her drink of choice. She was also an avid Bingo fan, her family recollects many memories of the many times she won prize money for playing Bingo. She is cherished in memory by Terrance “Terry” Drumheller, Patricia Johnson, John Warrick and Tammy Warrick as well as several cousins, grandkids and great grandchildren as well as one great-great grandchild.
A visitation will be from 5-7pm, Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 10am the following day in the funeral home chapel.
