James “Pappy” Carmouche received his wings as he entered Heaven to join his God, family, and friends on March 17, 2023 at the age of 91. He was born in St. Rose, Louisiana on December 30, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish.
He is survived by his son, William “Wild Bill” Carmouche (fiancé, Brenda Andrus Brunet), siblings, Beulah M. Carmouche and Harry S. Carmouche, and god-daughter Jeannie Aucoin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lillie Mae Elliot, his sons, Raymond Joseph Carmouche and Timothy “Tim” Michael Carmouche, his parents, Fulgence B. Carmouche and Marie Simon Carmouche, and grandparents, Vincent Carmouche II and Marie Blanche Ory Carmouche. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Annette T. Carmouche, Ethel A. Carmouche Mancuso, Rene L. Carmouche, Earl P. Carmouche, Irvin J. Carmouche, Herbert J. Carmouche, Allen B. Carmouche, Don F. Carmouche, and Emmett G. Carmouche, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Pappy’s childhood in St. Rose instilled in him a passion for hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. He loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen. He enlisted in the Army on May 2, 1949 at the age of 17. After completing basic training and training in his occupation, he was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he met his future wife, Lillie Mae Elliot. After his service in the Army he became a heavy equipment operator, was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, local 406, and worked for Boh Bros. for over 30 years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Rd, Destrehan, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM with a Mass to begin at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
