Shawn Michael McLaughlin

arms of God, on June 19, 2020 after a long battle with illness.

He was born on December 22 1967 in Winchester Connecticut, the son of Robert W.

McLaughlin and Patsy A. McLaughlin

Shawn worked at the Coast Guard Academy in IT. Shawn enjoyed playing ice hockey, and was

a USA ice hockey referee for over 20 years. He was a huge Boston Red Sox and Patriots fan.

He loved playing fantasy football and baseball with his friends. Shawn was involved in East

Lyme politics for many years; he served on the Zoning Board and Zoning Appeals Board and

was also a member of the East Lyme Republicans. Shawn also liked a clean house even

though his wife liked to clean, he did a better job. All of Shawn's friends and family knew he had

an incredible sense of humor and his smile could light up a room.

Laura and her family would like to thank the staff at 60 West for the wonderful care he received

during his stay, and his friend Tim Kulterman who gave Shawn spiritual guidance every week.

Shawn is survived by his loving wife Laura, daughter Hannah and son Ryan McLaughlin, all of

Salem. He is also survived by his Mother-in-law Elaine Stash of New Bern,NC. Sister-in-laws

Sharon Kellar of Woodsboro MD, Kathleen Clark of Simpsonville, SC. Aunt Judy Lee Holiday of

Willimantic, CT and nieces and nephews he loved dearly. Shawn was predeceased by his

parents and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hannah and Ryan McLaughin’s educational trust

fund C/O Laura McLaughlin or The Eastern Connecticut Brain Injury Alliance.

A private family interment will take place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
