Robert Raymond Joesten of Niantic, Connecticut, husband of Diana Joesten, passed away peacefully, April 10, 2024 at the age of 47, embraced by the love of his family and the compassionate care of the staff at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. He was born August 4, 1976, in Manchester, Connecticut, the son of Raymond Leonard and Jane Elizabeth Joesten, and grew up in Coventry. Robert was known as “Bob” to his Mom and Dad, and brother, Peter, and “Rob” to his loving wife Diana and their friends.
Rob enjoyed twenty years with his beloved wife, Diana Joesten. They were married on the beach at Black Point, Niantic, September 12, 2015. Rescue canines, Shiloh and Madison, and felines, Lila, Butters, and Dizzy, are essential members of Rob and Diana’s family and miss him dearly.
Bob attended Coventry schools and graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a major in Psychology and minor in Electronic Music. He was employed by MARC for nearly 20 years, working with developmentally disabled adults, with whom he shared a special bond having lived with the otherness of autism, not formally diagnosed until his thirties. He enjoyed cooking, using skills learned working in the kitchens of several local restaurants. Raising sea horses and cacti and making music brought him joy. He was a caring and thoughtful man to all who knew him.
In addition to his mother and father, Jane and Ray Joesten, and his loving wife, Diana Joesten, Robert is survived by his brother Peter Joesten, his wife, Lori, and his nieces, Abigail and Rebecca Joesten, of Charlton, Massachusetts, Diana’s mother, Joan Ryan of Niantic, his Aunt Beverlee Joesten Tyner and Uncle Pat of Craig, Alaska, Uncle Jim Bollinger and Aunt Mary of Redmond, Oregon, and Aunt Susan Bollinger of Chico, California. He was predeceased by Uncles Glenn Joesten and John Bollinger, and by father-in-law, Jack Ryan.
