He was born in Richmond Hill, NY on April 25, 1941 to the late Hattie (DeClue) McCarthy and Charles McCarthy.
Dick graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1967 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He spent most of his career at Otis Elevator in Farmington, CT. Dick was a project manager in research and development and was awarded numerous patents for his design work.
Dick could fix anything and was a talented woodworker. He loved the outdoors, especially spending time on the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound on his boat, The Irish Rover.
He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of fifty three years, Patricia, and his loving children, daughter Lori McCarthy, son Douglas McCarthy, his wife, Annie McCulley, and their son Townes McCarthy. He also leaves a sister, Anne Bond, and her family and a brother-in-law William Cody, and his family.
Dick will always be remembered by his family and friends for his dry sense of humor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
