He was known to his family as "Rick the Rock." As a young teenager, Rick learned carpentry building houses with his father. He was a quick learner and often made suggestions that improved the way things were done. Aside from his work, Rick enjoyed being outdoors, engaging in such activities as boating, skiing, bike riding and playing ice hockey. Rick had the ability to charm just about anyone, relate to just about everyone, and make friends easily wherever he went, largely in part because he wouldn't hesitate to stand up for those who were unable to stand up for themselves. Because of this, he has been referred to by many as the "anti-bully." Rick had a big heart. His character was not one of violence, but one of compassion and empathy. We are confident that he will be remembered for the good, the joy, the laughter, and the love he shared with so many.
Richard Love is survived by his parents, his maternal grandparents Paul and Jackie Portelance, his paternal grandmother Shirley Love, his sisters Michaela and Amanda Love, his girlfriend Melissa Pearson and her son. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Richard D. Love.
