Ralph was born on May 3, 1934, in New London, the son of the late Howard V. and Esther Whiting.
Ralph served in the Marine Corps. He retired from Southern New England Telephone (SNET) as an installation supervisor for business services after 32 years there. Ralph was a man of many talents and interests. He had a great interest in history and the genealogy of the Whiting family. He has built several homes including the home where he and Rosemarie raised their children in Niantic. He raised and trained Arabian Horses for many years at their farm in Niantic. Ralph continued his farming heritage by growing vegetables every summer to share with friends and family.
Ralph’s main focus throughout his life was his family. He loved them dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rosemarie Whiting; children John Whiting of South Berwick, ME, Susan Longyear and her husband Ulric of Mountain View, CA, David Whiting and his wife Amy of Framingham, MA, and Catharine Thomas of Norwich; sister Joan Whiting of Marlborough, CT, sister-in-law Patricia Whiting of Lakeland, Fl, brother-in-law Robert Hall of Las Vegas, NV, and eight grandchildren, Caleb and Ben Whiting-Grant, Daniel and Douglas Longyear, Sarah, Sam, and Jack Whiting, and Krystal Thomas. Also, his nephew, Lee Whiting of Andover, VT, and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Ellsworth Whiting and Doris Fithian.
The service for Ralph will be held Tuesday, Feb 18, 2025, at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home in Niantic at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at 10:00 am. The burial will take place after the service at East Lyme Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to do so, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or other charity you prefer.
