

She was born on February 21, 1923, in Hartford, the daughter of George A. and Hatie S. Benker.
Mrs. Kensel was the widow of George E. Kensel, Jr., who she married on April 6, 1946 in Glastonbury.
She is survived by her children Philip A. Kensel and his wife Patricia M. Kensel; Steven G. Kensel and his wife Kathleen B. Kensel; Patricia K. Traver; and Diane K. Swinburne and her husband James L. Swinburne; her daughter-in-law Carolyn T. Kensel; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Robert E. Kensel and her sister Mary L. Moores.
Dorothy was a member of the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme and participated in activities at the South Lyme Union Chapel for many years. She was a former member of Eastern Star. She loved to read a good mystery novel, Kane chairs and do counted cross stitch.
