Cynthia (Ladd) Twomey passed away on September 16, 2022, at the age of 82 after an extended illness. She was born in Norwich on January 3, 1940, daughter of the late Nelson and Catherine (Gribbin) Ladd. She grew up in the Fitchville section of Bozrah, graduated from the Academy of the Holy Family in Baltic, and was a long-time resident of Norwich following her marriage to Thomas J. Twomey on October 29, 1960. He predeceased her in 1984. She was also predeceased by her brother James Ladd and her sister Catherine (Ladd) MacDougall. She is survived by her children: Thomas J. Twomey, Jr. (Lynda) of Midlothian, VA; T. Michael Twomey (Gail) of Ridgefield, CT; and Margaret M. Dewey (James) of Niantic, CT. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Colleen M. Twomey, Allison B. Twomey, Meghan E. Twomey, Elizabeth A. Twomey, William L. Twomey, Molly C. Dewey, and Julia M. Dewey. Her brother William Ladd (Penelope) of Laurel, MT also survives her, along with several nieces and nephews.
When her children were young, she was an active volunteer in the schools they attended, as well as in an after-school reading enrichment program for underprivileged children. She worked at Lee & Osgood and for many years at William W. Backus Hospital in several administrative assistant positions. Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren and attending theatrical performances at the Garde in New London. She was an avid reader, often consuming multiple books in a weekend.
