Charles George Iwanicki Jr.

Mr. Iwanicki, known to friends and family as “Chuck”, was born on June 2, 1932, in Meriden Connecticut, the son of Charles and Bessie Iwanicki. He moved to Niantic in 1953 and together with his beloved wife Dolores, raised a family there. He was employed by Pfizer as a chemical engineer from the time he graduated from UCONN in 1954 until he retired in 1990.

Chuck loved sports. He played football in high school and college. He was an active participant in golf and bowling leagues, a loyal fan to the Green Bay Packers and the “Brooklyn” Dodgers, and a volunteer for East Lyme High School Sports Boosters and Special Olympics. On countless summer Sundays he would accompany his son David to the dragstrip to be his one-man pit crew.

A true animal lover, there was always a dog or a cat in Chuck’s life, and quite often both at the same time. In most recent years he “adopted” his neighbor’s senior dog for weekday visits, a perfect arrangement for both.

Post retirement, Chuck and Dolores spent the winter months in their Florida home where they enjoyed the company of new friends and looked forward to annual visits from family.

He leaves behind his daughter Teri Prestash and her husband Anthony of Madison, son David Iwanicki and wife Jill of Niantic, and his daughter Nancy Iwanicki and her husband Randy Wilcox of Leicester Vermont. Chuck was the proud grandfather of four—Curtis, Emma, Lauren and Justin; and of great grandfather of three—Logan, Silas and Alice. Also survived by his brother Howard Iwanicki of Lebanon. He was pre-deceased by his wife Dolores and his daughter Lezlie.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday, November 8, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic. Memories will be shared at 7:00pm during a brief service.

Interment will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer.
