Charles Leon Gordon, passed away September 7th, at Beechwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a short illness. He was born April 3, 1925 in Bagdad, FL. the son of the late James A. Gordon and Sarah Scott Gordon Kozloske. Charles is survived by his wife, Marilyn Blackburn Gordon, of East Lyme. He is also survived by his daughters, Paula G. Fee (David Aiken), of Colchester, CT, Charlene G. Reagan (Steven) of Binghamton, NY, and Scott S. Gordon (Lisa), Chesapeake, VA. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Raymond Gordon (Sandy) of Enfield, CT. Charles and Marilyn was joined in marriage September 20, 1947 in Norwich, CT. He is survived by his grandchildren, Elisa Reagan Dorsh (Kevin), Colorado Springs, CO., Alan M. Reagan (Emily), NY, NY, Sherri G. Tumosa (Cory), Enfield, CT, Laura F. Digilio (Michael), Mystic, CT, Brian R. Gordon (Chelsea), Vernon, CT, Gage Q. Gordon, and Sadie L. Gordon, Chesapeake, VA. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.
Charles was a U.S. Naval veteran volunteering in 1943 and served for the duration of WW2. Upon leaving the service, he was employed by Western Electric. He joined General Dynamics/Electric Boat in 1950 and retired as senior weapons system test director in 1990. He was actively involved in the development of the nuclear navy. He was a self educated electrical engineer.
Charles was a Mason for 58 year, served as Master of Bayview Lodge #120, East Lyme in 1966.
In addition, he was past president of ELHS PTA, past president of East Lyme Rowing Association, Co-chairperson of the ELHS scholarship committee, and a member of Naval Academy Parents Club. He was the Worthy Patron of Nehantic Chapter of the OES with his wife, Marilyn, who served as Worthy Matron.
People will remember him for his love of gardening and travel, his knowledge of computers & technology and his passionate love of his family. Feeding the birds became his wonderful hobby especially the “hummers”.
Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4-7p.m, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Avenue, Niantic, CT. Funeral will take place on Friday, September 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Flanders Baptist & Community Church, 162 Boston Post Road, East Lyme, CT 06333
