Barbara E. Siegel, 82, of Niantic (formerly of Cutchogue, New York) passed away suddenly on April 8, 2017 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, New London. Barbara, “Bobbie,” was born on October 13, 1934 in New York City, a daughter to Henry Bohlken and Rebecca Meyer Bohlken. She grew up in Queens and West Gilgo Beach, N.Y.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Manuel N. Siegel (“Manny”) of Niantic, with whom she shared more than sixty-years of marriage and a very special relationship that they both treasured. They made their home together in Cutchogue, where they raised their daughters, and later moved to Niantic. Barbara is also survived by her daughters, Marjorie Siegel Russell of Centerbrook and Donna Siegel Moffa of Cherry Hill, NJ. and will be greatly missed by them and their husbands and loving “sons”, Tom Russell and Lou Moffa. While gone in body, Barbara will always live in their hearts and be seen and felt in their spirits, character and actions. She is predeceased by her daughter, Cynthia Siegel.
Barbara was beloved “Oma” to her five grandchildren, Anthony Moffa, David Moffa, Emma Russell, Greta Russell and Thomas Russell, as well as to her great-grandson, Michael Moffa and his mother, David’s wife, Cathy. Her grandchildren brought her much joy and pride and are her living legacies, being young adults of substance, compassion and integrity.
Barbara always loved animals and nature. Throughout her life, she nurtured, supported and connected with animals and nature and likewise was nurtured, filled and supported by each. Her pets were very special to her and she was never without a least one dog in the house. Barbara loved to garden and to spend time by the ocean, where she had many happy times. Barbara was a homemaker who also enjoyed knitting, crafts and painting. She made any place that she and Manny shared a “home” that was warm and inviting—especially a Christmastime, a time of year that she loved. Barbara was a person of generous and loving spirit who cared deeply about and was fiercely loyal and committed to her family and friends. She will be missed very much.
