Marion Nellie McDonald

Having celebrated her 95th birthday just 3 weeks ago, we sadly announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Mom, Gram, and GG on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at GNGH. Beloved Wife of George (1984), Mom to Sheila, and Gram to Sheryl & Steve Hollett, Jeff & Barb Brown (Kean & Aidan Fowler) and Dave Brown & Kim Crawford (Conner & Cale Reece). Cherished GG to Alexandra Brown, and Seth & Saige Hollett. Marion was born on January 4th, 1918 to Frank and Elizabeth Darling in Chesterville, ON. She has now joined her sisters Ruth, Jean, and Lillian, and her brothers Earl, Ray, and Willis. Also surviving are 4 generations of Nieces & Nephews in the Ottawa Valley, Toronto, Poughkeepsie, NY, Bradenton, FL and Olds, AB. Marion graduated in 1941 from Cornwall General Hospital School of Nursing, moved to St. Catharines to join her fiancé and work at SCGH. She and George then married in 1943. Marion took great pride in her nursing career enjoying her position as Plant Nurse at McKinnon Industries (now General Motors). Her career continued at GNGH when they moved to Niagara Falls with their daughter in 1947. Marion and George joined Kitchener Street united Church where Marion became a Charter Member of The United Church Women. In 1969 the McDonalds moved to Simcoe, ON where Marion completed her nursing career in 1983 at Norfolk General Hospital. She resided in Simcoe keeping active with volunteering, UCW activities, and many adventures with her dear friend Marion Smith.

At Marion’s request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Avenue, on Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 from 6 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Niagara Falls Humane Society would be appreciated.
