Jimmy Smart: A true Officer and a Gentleman.  I worked with Jimmy for Canada Customs at the Rainbow Bridge.  He was such a personable colleague to work with which made the shift very enjoyable.  He was an excellent Officer being very courteous and professional with the public.  I'll never forget him and his contribution to the Canadian Military.  Jean, I join in your sorrow and he is in my prayers.  God bless.

Dear Jean and family, This is Jack Pennington and Jim was a very close friend of mine. In Niagara Falls I lived on Bridge Street and we were a block apart. Later on when they formed the Sea Cadet Memorial Band, Jim was one of the drummers and I played the bugle. With our parades and trips we took together we were close companions. We had many great times being in the parade together. Later on Jim joined the navy and a year after that I joined the navy also along with five other fellows. During our time in the navy Jim was on the HMCS Iroquois on his trip to Korea and about three years later I served on the Iroquois. Just a coincidence that I served on the Iroquois too. I am so sorry about his passing. He was such a great guy. I am sorry to lose such a good friend. I am retired and living in the United States now. My thoughts are with you Jean. Although I never met Jimmy, I have heard so much about him over the years. I hope you can take some comfort from the many happy memories you must have. Cynthia

I first met Jimmy when the Niagara Regional Police Pipes & Drums formed. He was the Drum Sergeant and taught me the rudiments of side drumming.  I will forever have wonderful memories of my experiences with him, parades and band trips.  Rest in peace my friend

I met Jimmy while I worked for a Customs broker and soon found out that he was also the uncle of Debbie, my childhood friend. What I remember most about Jimmy was his infectious smile.   I know Jimmy will be greatly missed but your memories of him will live on. My deepest sympathy to the Smart and Conte families.

I was saddened to read about Jimmy's passing this morning.  We worked together at Canada Customs and he was a funny, intelligent man and a pleasure to work with.  I will never forget him coming to our house dressed as Santa on Christmas Eve and bringing such joy and surprise to my children. My deepest condolences to all his family and friends.
