William was born May 23, 1930 to the late Earl and Lillian Hammell. He was a lifelong Sussex County resident and graduated from Franklin High School. William proudly served in the United States Air Force. He had worked as a tool and die maker at Picatinny Arsenal.
William was an avid reader and was very interested in the stock market and anything financial. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, William was also predeceased by his son, William E. Hammell, Jr; and his sister, Bette Landin. He is survived by his beloved wife, Frieda Hammell; his sons, Brent Hammell and wife, Mary; Mark Hammell and wife, Christine; his daughter, Patricia Zatorski and husband, John; his daughter-in-law, Maureen Hammell; his grandchildren, Stephanie McDonald (Nick), Cheyenne Hammell (Travis), Dionne Pierce (Kevin), Jessica Malcolm (Ryan) and Tom Carrino(Andrea); his great-grandchildren, Kaylia, Logan, Amelia, Dominic, Aubrey, and Levi; and his sister, Dot Bedell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 24 Halsted St, Newton, NJ. Interment will immediately follow in Sparta Cemetery, Main St, Sparta, NJ.
