Rita was born in Hurdtown, NJ on July 13, 1926 to the late Charles and Cecilia (Vincent) Habbart. Rita grew up in the Sparta and Jefferson area before settling in Fredon over 70 years ago. Prior to her retirement, Rita was a Secretary for Fredon Township School Board of Education. She also worked for the family business, Charles R. Habbart & Sons Block Plant in Sparta. Rita was talented at knitting and loved spending her time outdoors. She cherished going on hikes and spending time with her family at her home in Maine.
The beloved wife to the late Orville Douglas, Rita is survived by her children, Barry Douglas and his wife, Beth, Donna Green and her husband, George and Scott Douglas and his wife, Peggy; her grandchildren, Sarah Douglas, Justin Douglas, Erin Meyer (Keith), George Green and Lindsey Green and her great-grandson, Van Meyer. Along with her parents and husband, her brothers, Charles and Joseph Habbart, predeceased Rita.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. A funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. with interment to follow at Yellow Frame Cemetery in Fredon.
