Raymond was born and raised in Staten Island. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1953 where he also earned his certification in stationary engineering. Raymond’s military service started him on a diverse career path as a Stationary Engineer, most recently retiring from Anheuser Busch in 1992.
Raymond was a man dedicated to his faith, family and country. He served as the Treasurer for the Merri-8, a Commissioner for Boy Scouts of America and a Leader of Boy Scout Troop #35. Raymond was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church and earned the title of 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Don Bosco Council. He was a member of the American Legion Post 86 in Newton and served as the 2023 Grand Marshall.
Raymond loved traveling, especially taking trips to Alaska. He was an avid reader enjoyed photography, model trains and collecting stamps and coins. Raymond also appreciated the outdoors in many ways including, canoeing, camping, fishing and hunting. He loved his car and having the freedom to just hop in and go wherever the day took him.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents, James Francis and Emma (Woltman) Doyle, his beloved wife, Eppa Irene Doyle; and his sister, Rita McGuirck. He is survived by his children, Dorene Schiavone (John), Debra Whitehouse (Richard), Kevin Doyle (Maryellen), and Sheila Gieniewski (Christopher); his grandchildren, Kristin Binkowski (Anthony), Michael Whitehouse (Kristin), Steven Whitehouse (Brianna), Craig Whitehouse, Emily Cyrus, Colleen Doyle, Jessica Meade, Brittany Mirkovic (Dean), Tyler Ogrodowczyk, Jason Gieniewski (Samantha), and Rachel Gieniewski; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Sophia, Melina, Gabrielle, Parker, Olivia, Henry, Charlotte, Danny, Eleanor, Gia, Mila and Sabrina.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ. American Legion Services will be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 24 Halsted St, Newton, NJ. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, 840 Cranbury South River Rd, Jamesburg, NJ.
