Phyllis was born in Pompton Lakes, raised in Vernon and lived for 60 years on Culver Lake. She attended the Richmond Professional Institute for Fashion Design in Virginia, where she met her late husband, George. Phyllis was a homemaker, dedicated to being the most loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, sewing and cooking and her family most of all. Phyllis was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Branchville where she taught Sunday School when her children were young.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Garber in 2013; her son, Mark S. Garber (survived by, Eva); her parents, Frank Boyd and Margaret (nee Ryan); and her sister, Nancy Baginski and her husband, James. She is survived by her daughters, Melanie A. Garber; and Leslie M. Garber (Paul B. Dalrymple); her grandchildren, Erica Garber (Dennis), Graham (Shaun) Garber, Shannon Lista (Scott Grossman) and Tyler Lista (Michele); and her sisters, Lois Pellow (Harold) and Sheila Hall. Phyllis also leaves behind five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9 am to 11 am on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ, with Funeral Services at 11 am. Interment will follow in Frankford Plains Cemetery, Plains Rd, Augusta, NJ.
