Jack was born on December 4, 1934, in Newark, NJ. Throughout his life, he displayed a deep passion for sports and outdoor activities. During his time at St. Michael’s High School, he excelled in both basketball and baseball, and in his later years, he developed an excellent golf game.
After marrying his high school sweetheart Catherine (McGibbon), he started his 30-year career with the Newark Police Department, retiring at the rank of lieutenant. He then worked for 16 years as an investigator for the Public Defender’s Office. Jack also continued his education, studying at night and earning an associate’s degree from Rutgers University.
Jack was a talented home improvement craftsman and a passionate artist. His skills and creativity were well represented by the motto on his 'Tile Doctor' business card: 'Jack of all trades, master of some.' It was a fitting reminder of his versatile talents and the “hang-loose” nature he brought to everything he did.
He loved his family, fishing, the Jersey Shore, winters in Florida, and his many friends. He also loved his furry companion, Mom Cat.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Agatha, his brother, Alfred, former spouse, Catherine, and his partner of 40 years, Delores Caputo.
He is survived by his son, John (Mary), daughter, Catherine Perrotta (Albert), daughter, Cynthia Kirby (Coray), grandchildren, Hannah, Fletcher and Brush, his sister, Dorothy Redmond, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
To celebrate Jack’s life we will gather at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton, NJ on Friday, October 25th at 11 a.m., with a service at noon and repast to follow.
We welcome all to join us.
