Beloved husband, father, grandfather, George Sella “Chip”, passed away on December 3, 2023 at the age of 65. Chip was born on January 7, 1958 in Princeton, NJ to Mrs. Janet M. Sella and George J Sella Jr. He grew up in Hampton, NJ and attended Kittatinny Regional High School, where he received much notoriety while playing football, and graduated in the Class of 1977. He later earned a scholarship to play football at Clarion State.
After college, Chip moved to Charlotte, NC to open his own Auto Body Shop. He married the love of his life, Donna L Hassel, in 1985 and later raised their three beautiful children in Waxhaw, NC.
Throughout his life, Chip owned and operated Greenview Landscaping Company and AFH Sod Farms where he treated his employees like family, and was always on the phone.
While much of Chip’s life was dedicated to overseeing the operation of his two businesses, his greatest passions included hunting, fishing, golfing, and smoking cigars, as well as his annual 4th of July beach and winter ski trips with his family. Chip took great pride in his local community where he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to WCWAA and was well known as an exceptional soccer coach. Chip’s friends described him as wonderfully unique, and always marched to the beat of his own drum, with a booming voice and contagious laugh.
Chip is survived by his loving wife Donna of 38 years, his mother Janet, dear sisters Carlie, Jaime, and Lorie, brother Michael, and his beloved children Stephanie, George and Nicholas. Chip was respected and loved immensely by his 5 granddaughters, and his nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held in his honor this Saturday, December 9th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC. Chip will then be laid to rest in a private family ceremony on Sunday, December 10th.
A memorial visitation will also be held on Sunday, January 7th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Smith McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in Chip’s honor to WCWAA Soccer: https://fundraise.givesmart.com/e/poY5Rw?vid=12p2pp
