Born to Richard and Elizabeth (Roe) Martin, he lived his early years in Newton prior to moving to the Culver Lake section of Frankford Township where he resided for the past 51 years. Mr. Martin graduated from Newton High School class of 1958 and attended the University of Miami in Miami, Florida prior to joining the United States Army serving at Fort Knox in Louisville Kentucky. He worked at the Mennen Company in Morris Plains N.J., Associated Grocers of Miami in Miami Florida, and Prudential Insurance Company in Newark N.J. prior to joining Selective Insurance Company in Branchville N.J. At Selective he started as a computer operator and progressed through the ranks to the position of Senior Vice President, Director of Information Systems. He was with Selective for over 30 years before moving on to do consulting work at various insurance companies both in the United States and the Caribbean Islands. Prior to his retirement Mr. Martin served on the Board of Directors of ACORD and IVANS, both broad based national organizations dedicated to the mission of improving the operating efficiency and service levels for the property and casualty insurance industry. In addition, he was also a member of PLANS (Property and Liability Association for New Systems) and IASA (Insurance and Accounting Statistical Association).
In addition to his business associations, Mr. Martin was an active member of the Newton Elks Club 1512 twice holding the position of Grand Exalted Ruler. He was also a past member of the Branchville Businessmen's Club and a current member of the American Legion Post 157 in Branchville, N.J. He also took great joy in his hobbies of golf, hunting, and especially just "going fishing".
He was the beloved husband of Lois H. Martin; devoted and loving father of his daughters, Kelly Francavilla and husband, Ralph, Kimberly Cullen and husband, Ray, & Christina Carney and husband, Chris; grandfather of Nick Francavilla, Chelsea Stoll (Kyle), Ricky Cullen (Kristin) and Ryan Cullen, Hunter, Colin, and Kayden Carney; great-grandfather of Roman and Ryker Cullen and Beau Stoll. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald R. Martin of Phoenix Arizona and is survived by his brother Richard L. Martin of Augusta New Jersey and also several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Branchville Cemetery.
