Frederick was born in Dover, NJ on August 22, 1946 to the late Frederick and Louisa (Freeman) Hickerson. He moved to Sussex County when he was 8 years old and grew up on the family farm and attended Newton Schools. Upon graduation from Newton High School in 1967, he worked for Picatinny Arsenal, where he was trained as an electrician. In his younger years, Fred liked drag racing, working on classic cars and was an avid photographer.
Fred is survived by his siblings, William Hickerson of Hardyston Township, John and Tom Hickerson of Newton Township and Anne Kakerbeck of Stillwater Township and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023 from 10 – 11 a.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway Cemetery in Rockaway, NJ.
