Betty was born on October 25th, 1926 in Broadway, NJ to the late William P. and Cletus (Hill) Parr. She lived in Andover Township most of her life before moving to Rock Hill, SC then to Kingsport, TN. Prior to her retirement, Betty worked at Britts Department Store, then for the Sears Catalog Department in Newton, NJ. Betty loved spending time with her family, and she enjoyed adding to her collection of dolls. Betty enjoyed traveling, square-dancing at many social functions, and reading. She accumulated many friends over the years. Betty attended Glen Alpine Methodist Church in Sullivan Gardens, TN.
Betty is survived by her sister, Joycelyn Decker of Waxhaw, NC, one sister-in-law, Joyce Parr of Monroe, NC, her children, Judith Marks of Rock Hill, SC, and John McPeek, III and his wife Kathy of Kingsport, TN, daughter-in-law Donna McPeek (wife of the late Robert) of Lafayette, NJ, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John McPeek Jr. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, one sister, her oldest son, Robert (Bob), and a grandson.
A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Blairstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the US Veterans Administration or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Betty’s name.
