Dorothy was born on August 7, 1924 in Passaic, New Jersey to the late David and Daisy Colvin. She considered herself a city girl and loved to go dancing in Manhattan when she was young. She loved Frank Sinatra and was fond of swing, big band, jazz, and blues music from the 1940’s. Throughout her adult life would sing those songs aloud, unabashedly, always lighting up the room.
She considered moving to Florida when she was in her 20s where she was a seasonal worker but was pleasantly derailed when she met her husband, Ben Setticase at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC in the late 1940's. "Instead of buying a ticket to Florida, I bought a coat, and shortly after married Benny." This was a story she liked to tell, always with a smile, and not a hint of regret.
She worked as a waitress at Westmount Country Club in the late sixties, early seventies, where she made many friends and happy memories.
Dorothy had a terrific sense of humor and easily charmed family, friends, and strangers by paying them compliments and asking thoughtful questions. She was an unrivaled enthusiast for the people in her life. She made everyone feel, seen, heard, and truly special. Dorothy was a natural born cheerleader. Her hugs were gold. When she said she loved someone, she meant it with all her heart.
She adored traveling and talking about her trips abroad. Ireland, Spain and Italy were three of her favorite countries to visit. She found peace when visiting the seashore. She was a big fan of Jeopardy and Everybody Loves Raymond.
She loved to dress in royal blue, eating graham crackers and Werthers candy.
After her husband Ben passed away, she left their home in Tom's River and moved in with her daughter, Donna, and son-in-law, Joe in Stillwater.
She is survived by daughters Donna Reynolds and her husband Joe, Cindy Mathews and her husband Bruce. Granddaughters Leah Corcoran, Felicia Fenton and Mary Fenton, and 6 great grandchildren.
The family will hold a celebration of her life in the future during the warmer weather.
