Chris was born on September 7, 1951 in Berwyn, IL to the late Mel and Dolores “Dodie” (Mellon) Brdlik. Chris spent his formative years in Chicago, IL and Long Island, NY, where his lifelong fandom of the Yankees was born. Chris received his bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College and his Master of Divinity from the Virginia Theological Seminary. Prior to his retirement, he was an Episcopal priest for over 30 years. His ministry took him to Episcopal Church-Incarnation (Great Falls, MT), St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (Clifton Forge, VA), St. John's Episcopal Church (Waynesboro, VA), and Calvary Episcopal Church (Summit, NJ), where he spent the last 15 years of his pastorate. Chris loved being outdoors; he enjoyed his time hiking and travelling, often with his faithful Labrador retrievers, Nallie and Hollie. He could often be found on his deck overlooking the woods, enjoying a drink, and listening to the Yankees. He also appreciated spending his free time reading, studying the history of trains and railroads, and solving crossword puzzles.
The beloved husband to Debra (Cleveland) Brdlik for 46 years, Chris is also survived by his children, Benjamin Brdlik, Abigail Dobiszewski (Todd) and Nathaniel Brdlik (Mary Claire McCormack); his grandchildren John and Louisa Dobiszewski; his sisters, Kimberly Werley (Jeffrey) and Lindsay Smith (Dyke) and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Todd Brdlik.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 20 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Chris’s name can be made to the Washington National Cathedral, Sierra Club, or your favorite charity. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com for the Brdlik family.
